Turner’s Orchard - THANK YOU

Firstly- thank you to all those of you who gave donations in exchange for
Turner’s apples and pears. This accumulated to £120 and has been shared between the Pilgrims Hospice and the Orchard and Hall funds.

Secondly- we have had a wonderful response to our appeal for donations
to replace trees destroyed in the fire last summer. We received a very
generous gift from Wickhambreaux Gardening Society (sadly now closed)
and many individuals including some children who had saved up their
pocket money!

This means we now have the funds to replant and maintain fruit trees in
Turner’s Orchard over the coming years. We are doing this as a ‘phased
programme’ to enable us to care for the young trees properly. We have
ordered the first batch of heritage trees from Brogdale- one is an
Autumn Pearmain apple which dates back to the 15th century! Weather
permitting we plan to plant these in February.
